What a job looks like
Ron walks the rooms with you first and tells you what he thinks will come out and what won’t. That conversation happens before any money changes hands, not after.
Then the carpet gets vacuumed, spots are pre-treated individually, and the dry-foam machine works a stiff lather into the pile with a cylindrical brush. The brush is doing the cleaning — the foam just carries the detergent and lifts soil to where it can be pulled back out. Because the lather is mostly air, only a small amount of moisture ever reaches the backing.
Why the pad matters. A soaked pad is what causes the two problems people complain about after a cheap steam job: a musty smell that comes back a week later, and stains that reappear as moisture wicks old soil back up the fiber. Keep the water out of the pad and neither one happens.

After-treatment
Protectant is optional and Ron will tell you when it’s worth the money. On a brand-new carpet or a light-colored one in a busy house, it earns its keep — it gives you time to blot a spill before it becomes a stain. On an old carpet you plan to replace in a year, it doesn’t.

How long does the carpet take to dry?
Usually two to four hours at normal indoor humidity. Hot-water extraction typically takes six to twelve hours, because far more water goes into the backing and the pad underneath.
Do you move furniture?
Ron moves ordinary furniture — chairs, end tables, a light sofa. Beds, china cabinets, pianos and anything with electronics stay put. Clearing what you can before he arrives keeps the job shorter and the price lower.
Will an old stain come out?
Sometimes. A spill that got blotted quickly usually does. But anything that has bleached or re-dyed the fiber — bleach spots, some pet urine, certain dyes — is damage, not soil, and no method reverses it. Ron will tell you which one you’re looking at before he starts rather than after.
Is dry foam safe for wool?
Yes, and it’s usually the better choice. Wool is the fiber most likely to shrink, brown or lose dye when it’s saturated, so the less water involved, the better.
Do I need to be home?
For the walkthrough at the start, yes — that’s when you and Ron agree on what’s being cleaned and what it will cost. After that it’s up to you.
